The shy mathematician
Isadore was a Visiting Professor who gave me help with translations of German papers for my PhD. Like me he had an office in the old Math Annex. However at weekends he would always enter the Annex through one of the large sash windows. This was because he lacked a key for the Annex. That was because he was too scared to ask the Department Secretary for a key. And that was because of a fierce DS he had earlier had to deal with in Ontario.
