Pigments of Life
I was a chemistry student in Germany, when a science question led me to UBC Professor David Dolphin, an expert on porphyrins. These are the ‘pigments of life’, named so for their biological importance. I arrived in Jan 1991 and soon fell in love with the school, Vancouver, and its people, and enrolled into the UBC graduate program. Eventually I became faculty at the University of Connecticut – doing research on porphyrins, the pigments that have also become an integral to my professional life.
