The UBC Motto and Crest Are Created
After dedicated research and consultation, Dr. Frank Wesbrook (1st President, 1913-1918) settles on a crest depicting ocean waves below a setting sun, and the motto Tuum Est, meaning “It Is Yours.” Many students begin to interpret the motto as “It is up to you,” which cultivates strong feelings of responsibility and ownership among the student population.
