Students March in The Great Trek
Over the summer break, UBC students collect approximately 56,000 signatures in support of building the university at the Point Grey site. This public awareness campaign culminates on October 28, when 1,200 students with floats, banners, signs and a marching band make their way from the Fairview campus, travelling through downtown, over the Granville Street Bridge, up W. 10th Avenue (many using the streetcars), and finally up to the Point Grey site. The trek is a success, and the provincial government commits to raising $1.5 million to construct permanent buildings on the site.
