In September, the University Neighbourhoods Association will be opening a brand new facility. The new building, the Wesbrook Community Centre, is a collaborative achievement by UBC, UBC Properties Trust, and the University Neighbourhoods Association.
To celebrate this exciting new facility, we’ll be hosting our grand opening as part of the September 19th Wesbrook Village Festival. Event attendees will be able to witness our beautiful new rooms, sample our many exciting new programs and enjoy live music and performances throughout the facility. A huge part of the event will also be the official launch of the Community Art Project, a participatory art initiative designed to engage our community and provide opportunities for residents to make a long term contribution to the look and feel of the new community centre.
To kick off the Community Art Project, the grand opening will feature the first in a series free professional artist facilitated workshops where UNA residents and the entire UBC community will work together to create an art piece that will be featured permanently in the new Wesbrook Community Centre.
It is our goal for this project to be a powerful and fun tool for developing neighbourhood connectedness, creating dialogue amongst community members, and increasing community presence in the spaces where people live, work, learn and play.
The launch of the Community Art Project will take place at the Wesbrook Community Centre on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
