A Love of Literature
My passion for literature, sparked at UBC, led me to teach literature for many years at Langara College and later to turn my hand to writing fiction myself. Conceit, which won BC's top fiction prize (the Ethel Wilson), is a novel about the poet John Donne's relationship to his wife and daughter. My second novel, Muse, features the woman who inspired Francesco Petrarch, a resident of Avignon during the fourteenth century during the Babylonian Captivity, when the popes were French and lived there.
