Relocating one's life from Vancouver BC, Canada to San Francisco, CA, USA involved leaving my homeland and giving up my family and friends close by. Many can relate to this story. There were no options to pursue my professional advancement in Canada. Sadly in BC nurse practitioners continue to be restrained.. UCSF allowed me to pursue graduate school and permitted me to fully manage the medical needs of my patients. Now I am the Director of Advanced Practice at University of California SF.
