Early Recycling At UBC

In the early 1980s, an environmentally-conscious friend was appalled that UBC, the 5th largest community in BC when in session, had NO RECYCLING PROGRAM! She was disgusted at all the newspapers destined for the landfill, so she made an arrangement with certain Dept offices in the Arts Faculty to set aside their newspapers. She would then get her friends, like me!, to walk around campus with her collecting newspapers. Not long afterwards, UBC was inspired by her? to start its own program.
