Proximity with Nature Fostering Human Compassion

I spent a lot of my time at UBC writing papers. One spring, my allergies were so agonizing, that I was in no shape to write my term papers. Armed with a doctor's note from my exceptional Student Health Centre doctor, I went to my profs to ask for extensions. One of them said: “you don’t have to explain, my dog has sever food allergies.” I found it very endearing and exemplary of the proximity with nature as felt by most if not all students and faculty.
