From UBC intramurals to the Olympics

I hadn't owned a bike since I was 6 years old, before I moved to Vancouver to attend UBC. From there, the great outdoors beckoned. Mountains! Forests! Can you believe UBC Intramurals held lunch-time intramural mountain bike races back then? Those early days of sweat, mud, pain and bruises - and most of all, great friends to guide me, helped turn me into a professional cyclist. The highlight of my career came six years after graduating - competing in the 2000 Olympics. Quite the journey.
